The Green Bay Packers are going to look a lot different in 2023. Between trades and free agency, the Green Bay Packers became one of the youngest teams in the NFL in one off-season. The massive Aaron Rodgers trade headlined the off-season, however, there were many other players that left the team that will define the Packers’ 2023 season. Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, and Adrian Amos are just a few of the names that joined the Jets this off-season. One former Packers player who refused to join the Jets in 2023, is now looking for a new home.
Former Green Bay Packers Tight End Marcedes Lewis Still Wants To Play In The NFL
Mark Wakefield published an article that headlined Lewis’ desire to find a home for the 2023 NFL season:
Former Green Bay Packers star Marcedes Lewis has sent a plea to NFL teams in a bid to get offered a contract.
Lewis spent the last five seasons with the Packers, after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018 following 12 seasons in Florida. The tight end went on to become a key player in the Packers offense under head coach Matt LaFleur.
As well as Rodgers, former Packers players Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Adrian Amos made the switch to the Jets this off-season. They are joined by Billy Turner and Tim Boyle, who also spent time alongside Rodgers at Lambeau.
However, even though several of Rodgers’ former teammates decided to join him in New York, Lewis is not one of them. The 39-year-old is now a free agent and looking for a new team to call his home.
Having been a free agent in the past, this is not a situation that Lewis is unfamiliar with. However, Lewis will be turning 40 at the end of next season, so it remains to be seen how long the tight end intends to keep his playing career going for.
“I get the business side of it,” Lewis told The Associated Press. “My agent is in talks with a handful of teams, but it’s just small talk. I guess teams are trying to figure out their rosters and what they need.
Would The Green Bay Packers Bring Back Marcedes Lewis?
Lewis made an announcement on Twitter in early May that suggested his time with the Green Bay Packers is over. Lewis seems confident in himself and in his personal journey as he takes the next step:
“In love with the journey .. but more importantly what the journey consists of. Not being that great at something, failing, staying diligent, and then conquering that task .. starting a new journey, starting over, and then doing it again.
When you fall in love with the journey, naturally everything else takes care of itself, the goals just happen. You hit milestones, as a byproduct. Whether it’s lifting hella weight or running hella fast.
Don’t get me wrong, all that is cool, but not as gratifying as the journey and processes you go through to reach your personal best. Everything always feels better when you have to thrive in those uncomfortable spaces, and and earn what’s coming to you. I trust in that.
Bet on yourself”
With the Green Bay Packers taking two tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft, it seems unlikely they are interested in bringing back Lewis. However, the veteran leadership that he provided for the team was irreplaceable.
