The Green Bay Packers have never been a team that conforms to the tendencies popular with the rest of the NFL. While most teams rely on free agency to fill immediate needs, the Packers believe in draft and develop. Such was the case this offseason when the team decided to move on from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love, who sat behind the four-time MVP for three seasons. It is a very similar situation to when Rodgers took over after sitting behind Brett Favre for three years. In his most recent Football Morning in America article, NFL insider Peter King revealed what Brian Gutekunst told him about “the Packer Way.”

Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst Talks About the Decision to Move on From Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love

King asked Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst about the decision to move on from Rodgers and how the organization came to that decision. In response, Gutekunst said:
“Ron traded a one in 1992 for Brett Favre, who had been a second-round pick and wasn’t even starting for Atlanta. Imagine the media fervor if that happened today.
“We believe in our process and in how we make decisions. You never get them all right. We like to develop quarterbacks. Part of developing quarterbacks is they gotta sit for a while, I think, and then they gotta play. Obviously, Jordan Love sat and Aaron did a great job just kinda mentoring him. But now Jordan’s ready to play. He needs to play. I think our fans kinda realize why we’re doing what we’re doing.
“There’s a lot of unknowns. We’re a very young team. But I think the players, Jordan and the young guys, realize there’s gonna be more and different opportunities than they had in the past.”
It is going to be vital for the 2023 team’s success for the young players to make the most of the opportunities that they are going to be given. But don’t let anyone on that team, especially Keisean Nixon, catch you calling this a rebuild. They are confident in themselves and in their young quarterback.

There will be learning moments, but the Packer Way calls for a youth movement every once in a while. We are at that moment, and the Packers are going to be younger, faster, and more dynamic than they have been in years. There is plenty to be excited about.
