The Green Bay Packers made the shocking decision to move on from star running back Aaron Jones this off-season. Jones had been a pillar for the Packers’ offense for years, and that was more evident than ever during the final stretch of the 2023 season.
26-year-old Josh Jacobs will be the new featured back in Green Bay. While fans are certainly excited to see Jacobs in a Packers uniform, meaning they had to move on from Jones in the process hurt. Jones then dug the knife in a little deeper when he chose to sign a one year, seven million dollar deal with the Minnesota Vikings.
Many have speculated as to how/why Aaron Jones and the Packers got to this point. Jones took to social media to shed some light on that.
Former Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones Takes To Social Media Following His Release
Seeing the seven million dollar number that Jones agreed to for the Vikings raised some questions within Packers nation. Jones had some responses to those questions:

I think Aaron Jones thought better of this tweet and deleted it. Something he clearly wants to get off his chest about these negotiations pic.twitter.com/nu5kgDYpF5

It is very likely that during the negotiation process, one of three things happened:
- 1. The Packers never had any intention of signing Jones (seems the most unlikely)
- 2. Jones’ camp misjudged the market
- 3. Jones took less to stick to the Packers A combo of 2+3 feels most likely
It was undoubtedly a tough way to end such a cherished relationship. Aaron Jones has been one of the favorites in Green Bay, both on and off the field, for a long time.
Facing Jones twice a year (for at least one season) will prove challenging for a Packers rush defense who looks to drastically improve under Jeff Hafley.
However, it is also pretty safe to say that Jones is much further away from a Super Bowl ring (let alone playoff berth) with Minnesota than he was with Green Bay.
