Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones couldn’t be any prouder of his teammates after they beat the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday to improve their chances of making the playoffs.
The Packers dominated from start to finish, with both the offense and defense doing their fair share of work. While the defense has been largely criticized this season, defensive coordinator Joe Barry really stepped up his game in Week 18.
Aside from dropping 33 points on the Vikings’ heads, the Packers also limited them to just 10 points.
Jones, for his part, was a threat on the offensive side of the ball all night long. While he didn’t score a touchdown, he had 20 carries and recorded a team-high 120 rushing yards to get them going. Quarterback Jordan Love, on the other hand, threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns on 24 of 33 pass completion–all while also scoring one on the ground.
With the win, the Packers now have complete control of their destiny. They need to win out to secure their spot in the playoffs. Making the postseason appeared to be a distant reality for a Green Bay squad that started 2-5 on the season, but here they are now, in complete control of their destiny.
Sure enough, the Green Bay Packers’ growth throughout the campaign really impressed Aaron Jones, so much so that he couldn’t help but show his love for the team.
Jones also heaped praise on the team’s never-say-die mentality, which is evident in their comeback this season to become a playoff-caliber roster.
“A team that I’d go to war with any day. There’s no quit in this locker room,” Jones said of the Packers, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Jones certainly couldn’t have said it any better. The Packers have proven that they don’t quit, and for Jones, he wouldn’t want it any other way.
The Packers will be playing their most important game of the year next weekend, and sure enough, they could really use that character they have been building throughout the campaign.
Green Bay Packers’ Playoff Path
Aaron Jones and the Green Bay Packers now head to their Week 18 game against the Chicago Bears needing to do just one thing: win.
While it won’t be easy, the Packers have momentum on their side. If they win, they also secure a Wild Card spot in the NFC.
The Bears have nothing to play for after getting eliminated from playoff contention, so that could play in the Packers’ favor. After all, Chicago might opt not to go all-out to end the season to avoid risking injury to their players.
Regardless of what Chicago does, though, the Packers need to get the W. If not, they will need the remaining contenders–the Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints and Vikings–to lose in order to get in.
After Jones’ latest statement, however, there is every reason to believe Green Bay can pull it off.
