The Green Bay Packers know that Jordan Love will be under center to start 2023. Who will take over the all-important role that Jordan Love held as the backup quarterback? Green Bay will likely draft a quarterback, or two, as they did with Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn the year Aaron Rodgers took over. Here are five free-agent options the team has for the position in 2023.
5. Blaine Gabbert

Gabbert is one of many options available for the Green Bay Packers. Like other options on this list, Gabbert is a veteran who could be a mentor to Jordan Love in his first year as a starter. Gabbert spent time under Kyle Shanahan who was a mentor to a young Matt LaFleur. Although it is not the same offense, there are similarities. Gabbert could pick up the system quickly and be ready to play should he be needed. He spent the last three seasons backing up Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.
4. Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz is nowhere near the player he was when he was an MVP candidate. However, he can still be serviceable as a backup. Ideally, the Packers will sign someone with experience to back up Jordan Love. A veteran backup like Wentz could keep the Packers competitive if Jordan Love would miss time.
3. Matt Ryan

It is unclear whether or not the former MVP will play again, but he has not officially retired. Matt Ryan has had success in the NFL as a starter, but he has fallen off from his once high level of play. He could come in for the Green Bay Packers and be a good veteran voice for Jordan Love. The Colts have cut ties with Ryan meaning he is available.
2. Chase Daniel

Chase Daniel has seen his fair share of NFC North football. He has been in the NFL since 2010 and has played for both the Bears and Lions. Most recently he was backing up Justin Herbert for the Los Angeles Chargers. The 37-year-old is another veteran option for the Green Bay Packers.
1. Teddy Bridgewater

Bridgewater is an ideal system quarterback. For the last three years, he has been on teams that are in a rebuild and needed him to be a bridge quarterback. Although he is 11-20 as a starter the last three seasons he could make a great backup. Prior to the last three years, he was 5-1 as a starter with the Saints. He has dealt with some injuries but could end up being a great backup as the Green Bay Packers usher in a new era.
