Earlier this week, I took a look at reason why the Green Bay Packers could trade out of pick 25 in the NFL Draft. With only two weeks until the draft begins, it seems more realistic Brain Gutekunst could move up from their original draft position. Here is why I think Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers could do this
The Green Bay Packers Have A Ton Of Draft Capital

The Green Bay Packers own 11 draft picks in this years draft, including five picks in the top 100. There are a lot of teams that would want to have the capital Green Bay has.
The Packers also don’t have many glaring needs. They need a starting safety and starting inside linebacker, but neither of those positions needs to be addressed until day two at the earliest. Pick 25 is beginning to feel more like a best player available pick.
If the Green Bay Packers were to move up, it will likely cost them pick 25 and a third round pick. In the third round, they own picks 88 and 91 so there isn’t much of a difference there. They don’t need 11 players as they had a big draft class in 2023 and are already the youngest team in the league. I think there is a good chance they move up in round one.
Four Day Two Picks

The Packers gained an additional second round pick from the Aaron Rodgers trade and a third round pick from the Rasual Douglas trade. The day two picks seem to be where Green Bay’s needs are. They could likely get a safety and linebacker in these rounds. It’s nice to have four in your back pocket.
I can’t see Gutekunst keeping all four days two selections. With already a late first round pick, pick 25 will already have players with likely second round grades. There is no doubt these selections will have immediate impacts, but no team really keeps all those picks and not get aggressive. Gutekunst loves to move around and this seems like a great opportunity to do so.
Opportunity To Get A Player With First Round Talent

As mentioned earlier, there are not a lot of players with a first round draft grade, but there are a ton with grades beginning in the second round. With the draft capital the Packers own, they have the ability to move up and snag a player with a true first round grade. It could be a corner, and edge rusher, or a offensive lineman (not what they usually do).
Even if the Packers don’t move up, I would be shocked if there not at least shopping around. My feeling is I don’t think Green Bay is staying put. They may not move up a lot of spots, but if Gutekunst sees a player he likes, he has never hesitated to pull a trade off.
