MarJon Beauchamp is a summer-league star
The 2-0 Milwaukee Bucks defeated the 0-1 Phoenix Suns as summer league play continued on Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas. The final score was 84-75.
If Milwaukee can win one of their remaining two summer league games, they should then qualify for the 5th ‘playoff game’.
The Bucks simply looked like a taller, more athletic team. Tacko Fall started at center and while he can almost always look like the biggest guy on the floor he simply seemed to tower over the Suns. And while he only played 17 minutes he was 5-6 from the field and 7 rebounds.
The leading scores for the team were MarJon Beauchamp (20 points) and Tyler Cook (14 points). Fall had some awesome blocked shots.

The Suns only had one official pick in this year’s NBA draft. Toumani Camara was drafted 52nd overall. He was clearly the best player for the Suns in this game. He led the Suns with 20 points on 8/13 shooting. He played fast and strong and often was able to create his own shot.

Game Recap
Phoenix got out to a quick start, leading 27-15 at the end of the first quarter. Toumani Camara hit a clutch three to help Phoenix get out to a quick 11-4 lead.
Jordan Goodwin got hot at the end of the first quarter for Phoenix which really helped them.
He continued to play well and Phoenix was up 31-22 in the middle of the second quarter. Milwaukee battled back and got some nice shots from Beauchamp and Mannion. Plus Tyler Cook seemed to infuse some energy.
MarJon Beauchamp was again the star for Milwaukee. He led the team in scoring and more importantly in his seemingly veteran presence. At halftime it was 50-40.
The third quarter was when Milwaukee really started to play well, especially on the defensive end. By holding Phoenix to 13 points in the third quarter and 12 points in the final quarter, it was clear Milwaukee is going to focus on becoming a true “defensive-minded” team this season. Of course, again, it helped that Milwaukee just seemed to be bigger and stronger. But that defensive performance was quite impressive.
In the second half Milwaukee’s size really helped control the glass. The Bucks really played some good team defense.

Again, a ton of guys for Milwaukee did not play. Local UW-Milwaukee product Vin Baker Jr received an invite but didn’t play in the game. Nor did Coach Griffin’s son.
Drew Timme played a few minutes. Nico Mannion played well, just not as well as he did in Friday’s win over Denver. Mannion is vying for the backup point guard role vacated by Jevon Carter.
Up Next
The Bucks have a few days off and will play again on Tuesday July 11th.
The game has an 5pm Start Time CST and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
The Bucks look to continue this improbable summer league winning streak. This is the best they have looked in the NBA Summer league team in a long time.
