Omaha Mavericks Frankie Fidler has cut his transfer list down to four teams with the Wisconsin Badgers potentially being one of the four destinations for next season. The other three destinations that are on his list for next season are the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Michigan State Spartans, and the Creighton Blue Jays.
Fidler last season as a junior with the Omaha Mavericks averaged 20.1 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 2.6 APG, 0.4 BPG, and 1.2 SPG a season ago. He shot 45.2% from the field, 35.6% from three-point land, and also shot 85.4% from the free-throw line.
His points per game total was ranked 31st in all of college basketball last season. Frankie Fidler is one of the best scorers in the transfer portal and the fact that the Badgers are in play for him is a pretty big deal. Fidler played high school basketball with Badgers’ Chucky Hepburn.
With A.J. Storr in the transfer portal, Wisconsin will potentially have to replace his scoring for next season. Head coach Greg Gard needs to find a way to lure Frankie Fidler into the program for next season, but he and some others may be at a disadvantage in trying to land him.
Frankie Fidler May Very Well Choose the Creighton Blue Jays Over the Wisconsin Badgers Because Of Location
Badgers fans would be thrilled to land Fidler for next season, but he is from Bellevue, Nebraska, and that alone will have Wisconsin behind the eight-ball in this situation. The Michigan State Spartans and Tom Izzo are also at a disadvantage in this situation.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Fred Hoiberg have an advantage over Wisconsin and Michigan State because that is where Frankie Fidler is from. However, Nebraska made it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in a decade this season.
The team that is going to make the most sense for him is the Creighton Blue Jays. The head coach of that basketball program is Greg McDermott. Creighton has had success in the Big East Conference over the last several seasons. Fidler as of late did go see the Blue Jays practice while they were in the NCAA Tournament and that is a program that Frankie Fidler wants to go play for.
It would also make sense for him to stay in his home state. Playing for Creighton is a better option for him at the moment rather than playing for the Wisconsin Badgers, Wisconsin is going to need to do everything to get him out of his home state, and maybe Chucky Hepburn could be the salesman to land one of the top transfers in the country.
