Green Bay Packers fans know the name of Eliot Wolf quite well. After all, his father, Hall of Famer Ron Wolf, built the roster that won Super Bowl XXXI. For years, Eliot Wolf worked in the Packers’ front office. When Ted Thompson stepped down as general manager, Wolf was one of the candidates considered. Now a scouting director with the New England Patriots, Eliot Wolf may be interviewing for the Chicago Bears’ general manager position.

Bears requested permission to interview Patriots’ director of scouting Eliot Wolf for their GM job, per source.

Eliot Wolf began his career in the Green Bay Packers’ front office in 2004 as a Pro Personnel Assistant. He held this position until 2008 when he was promoted to Assistant Director of Pro Personnel. In 2011, Wolf was promoted once again to Assistant Director of Player Personnel, a position that he held until 2012.

From 2012-2016, Eliot Wolf held the roles of Director of Pro Personnel and Director of Player Personnel. There was much speculation among fans that Wolf was being groomed to take over for Ted Thompson when the time came for Thompson to retire or step down. As the son of Ron Wolf, he was a very popular name among Packers’ fans. Additionally, he was highly regarded by the Packers’ front office as he was consistently promoted. In 2016, Eliot Wolf was promoted to the position of Director of Football Operations.

When Ted Thompson did step down in 2018, many believed Wolf was a shoe-in for the job. However, Brian Gutekunst was hired as the general manager and Eliot Wolf departed the organization.

Positions with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots

After leaving the Green Bay Packers, Eliot Wolf accepted the position of Assistant General Manager with the Cleveland Browns. Wolf held that position from 2018-2019 and helped brighten the future of the Browns. The year before he arrived, the Browns were 0-16. Eliot Wolf helped turn the fortunes of Cleveland around, and the team finished 7-8-1 in his first season. The next year, 2019, the Browns took a step back, finishing the season 6-10. Wolf and the Browns parted ways in what was called a mutual decision.

In 2020, Eliot Wolf took a job with the New England Patriots as a front office advisor. He has worked his way up to be the Director of Scouting. The Patriots’ improvement from last season to this is a testament to the eye for talent that Wolf has.

And now, finally, Wolf may be able to land his first General Manger position. Unfortunately, it could be with the Chicago Bears, the rival of the team his father turned into a Super Bowl contender.
