Two off-seasons in a row the Green Bay Packers have off-loaded a star player. In 2022 the team traded wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for multiple premium draft picks. Of course, 2023 was headlined by the franchise-altering Aaron Rodgers trade. Now one former star is drawing more trade interest than ever before.
Former Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams Drawing More Trade Rumors Than Ever Before
There have been rumors that Raiders wideout Davante Adams, one of the most talented in the league, might end up on the trade block this season, according to a league insider.
“I’m not saying they’ll trade him. I don’t even know if they’d consider it,” wrote ESPN’s Dan Graziano. “If he doesn’t believe he fits in the Jimmy Garoppolo-led offense, and if the season in Las Vegas gets off to a bad start, Adams could absolutely start making noise about wanting out.”
Adams expressed his concerns with the Raiders earlier this off-season:
“We [Adams and the front office] don’t see eye-to-eye on what’s best for us right now,” Adams told the Ringer’s Mirin Fader. “If we play a certain brand of ball, I can get [Garoppolo] to conform to whatever. But if we use him a certain type of way, it’s going to be tough for us to maximize who we should be this year.”
It is likely that the 30-year-old, who has never been to a Super Bowl, wants to play for a team that is considered a contender. As a result of a 6-11 record last season, Las Vegas missed the playoffs, and the team is not expected to improve this season. There is an over/under win total of 6.5 for the Raiders in the 2023 season, which ranks them last in the AFC West as per BetMGM.
It seems unlikely that the Raiders will move the six-time Pro Bowler, even though there would be a massive trade market for him. There is no question that Adams is still in his prime as he led the league in receiving touchdowns (14) last season. In addition to that, his cap hit in 2024 ($25.35M) is deterring a lot of potential suitors from pursuing him.
There is no doubt that trade rumors will gain traction over the course of the season, but it will take a lot for the team to trade him away.
