Josh Hader was unexpectedly traded from the Milwaukee Brewers to the San Diego Padres during the 2022 MLB regular season near the trade deadline. With the MLB trade deadline on Tuesday, Aug. 1, the pressure is on teams. For the second consecutive season, Hader finds himself on the trade market.

The Padres are 49-54 this season, and they will be sellers at the MLB trade deadline. This was supposed to be a World Series or bust kind of season for them, and it has not turned out as planned. They were spending all sorts of money this offseason. Josh Hader played a huge role in them making the NLCS last season before losing to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Several teams who have spoken with the #Padres in recent days believe that All-Star closer Josh Hader and former Cy Young winner Blake Snell will be traded, particularly Hader.
The struggling Padres (49-54) are in 7th place in the wild-card race, 6.5 games out of a playoff spot.

Josh Hader has appeared in 40 games so far this season for the San Diego Padres. He has a 0-1 record with a 0.95 ERA. In 38.0 innings pitched, he has given up 16 hits and six runs. Hader has walked 20 batters and has struck out 58 batters. Josh Hader has recorded 24 saves so far this season and has one hold.

The Milwaukee Brewers received a decent haul for Josh Hader last season. Which teams could use Hader at the MLB Trade Deadline?

    Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are currently leading the American League West, and they are on track to get a first-round bye. Texas has one of the worst ERAs in all of baseball out of the bullpen this year at 4.77. The Rangers need Josh Hader badly.

They have a shot to go to the World Series with the lineup they have, but they need to shut the door late in games. There is a reason they went to go get Aroldis Chapman earlier this season from the Kansas City Royals.

    Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins are currently trying to get into the playoffs as a wild card spot in the National League. Miami has been overachieving so far this season. The Marlins will need to fix the bullpen if they want to win more games and get into the postseason.

Josh Hader would be a solid addition to the Miami Marlins. They have a 4.04 ERA in the bullpen on the campaign.

    Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds have the prospects to give to the San Diego Padres in a Josh Hader trade. Cincinnati has a 3.90 ERA out of the bullpen so far this season. The Reds do have Alexis Diaz saving games for them out of the bullpen, but Hader could be their setup man and can make the bullpen even better.

They are currently competing with other teams for a Wild Card Spot and are trying to catch the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Who were the trade packages for Josh Hader?

The trade packages for Josh Hader included reliever Taylor Rogers, righty Dinelson Lamet (later designated for assignment), and two prospects: outfielder Esteury Ruiz and left-hander Robert Gasser.

    Why did Josh Hader trade?

Josh Hader was traded by the Brewers for several reasons. With an $11 million salary in 2022 and an expected increase in arbitration before free agency in 2024, the team decided to move him. Additionally, his role as primarily a one-inning pitcher, even in the postseason, made him expendable.

Who did the Orioles get for Josh Hader?

The Baltimore Orioles traded Josh Hader to the Houston Astros in 2013 and received Bud Norris in return. Hader finished his 2013 season playing for the Quad Cities River Bandits in the Single-A Midwest League.
