Devin Williams had a rather grim response to the Josh Hader trade. In case you missed it (or are living under a rock), Josh Hader was traded to the San Diego Padres one day before the MLB’s Trade Deadline. The Brewers received Taylor Rogers, Robert Gasser, Esteury Ruiz, and Dinelson Lamet. In the immediate aftermath of the trade, emotions ran high on social media. Today Devin Williams was asked how he felt after the trade, and his response was pretty telling.

After quiet a long moment of silence, Williams responded; “I don’t really have a lot to say to be honest with you. I.. I don’t know.” After being asked a few follow up questions he responded to just one. “Yeah, I was surprised” Williams said.
Devin Williams went on to talk about how impact-full Hader was to the Brewers and how he’ll be missed. He had mentioned that Hader was a huge part of his own success in the MLB. “Having that guy there was really big for me. Taking little tidbits from his routine and add it to mine.” At the end of the interview Devin Williams was asked “tough business, isn’t it?” His response was “you could say that.”
Clearly the team will miss Hader:
while there is no surprise that professional sports is a business, it is important to remember the relationships these players build with each other. Devin Williams and Josh Hader likely got pretty close over the years. Learning from each other and bonding as the two best closers on the team. Hader will surely be missed in Milwaukee, however we are glad to see Williams still in a Brewers uniform.
