Winning football games isn’t the cure-all for former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams. The All-Pro wide receiver made some eye-opening statements about his use following the Las Vegas Raiders’ two-game win streak.
A former Green Bay Packers WR has been frustrated this season
Adams voiced his frustrations with how the Raiders played early in the season. Per WSH Media files, Adams made bold statements after the Raiders’ Week 3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that knocked the Raiders to 1-2:
Las Vegas Raiders star WR Davante Adams voiced his frustration after the Raiders, 23-18 loss to the Steelers.
“I don’t want to act like it’s all crazy, but it’s Week 3 I don’t time to wait around.” Adams said. “It’s not my mentality to sit here to try to take all season and figure it out…
“Use their other games to try and establish our identity, and we not doing things the right way to establish a winning culture early in the season so we got to do something to turn that around.”
The Raiders would drop their next game to the Los Angeles Chargers. But the Raiders won their next two games, including their Week 5 matchup over the Packers, to earn a .500 record.
But Adams still isn’t happy.
Adams’ former teammate, Aaron Rodgers, called out the Raiders for Adams’ lack of targets (four) against the Packers in Week 5. Adams would receive five targets in their Week 6 win over the New England Patriots.
Davante Adams is complaining after two-straight wins
In an interview published by Mark Anderson with the Associated Press, Adams said he was frustrated with his role on a winning Raiders team:
“I’m sure people are thinking, ‘They won the game, so why is there an issue?’” Adams said Wednesday. “When you’re a player like me, mentally my benchmark is not wins and losses, it’s greatness. So when I go out there, I expect to have that ability to put that on the table and have an influence on the game. That’s my purpose for being here.
I came here to win and to do it the right way, so if it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to look, then I’m going to be frustrated if I’m not part of that plan.”
Adams acknowledged it was difficult for a quarterback to throw to him in double coverage but said they need to find ways to make those tight throws anyway. He also said he doesn’t mind if another playmaker like Jakobi Meyers has a big day and the offense succeeds. Adams said he knows overall, the offense is better if he gets more targets.
The offense is better with the ball in Adams’ hands. However, Adams needs to make these comments in the locker room instead of to the press. There’s no reason for him to bring the team down after two big wins.
That’s the hallmark of a diva.
