The Detroit Lions added a surprise tight end to their 53-man roster ahead of their important matchup with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. The Thursday Night Football game winner will take an early lead in the NFC North.
Both teams are battling injuries to start the season. However, both coaches are hopeful that they can get a couple of crucial starters back by Thursday. The Lions added depth at offense and special teams with a move they made Wednesday.
The Detroit Lions sign TE before Green Bay Packers game

According to Aaron Wilson with KPRC, the Lions signed Darrell Daniels to the 53-man roster. Daniels was signed to the Lions practice squad after being cut at the end of Detroit’s training camp.

Daniels has 13 receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown in his NFL career. Daniels has played more of a role on special teams in the NFL. He has 715 special teams snaps in the league.

The six-foot-three, 256-pound tight end is effective as a blocker. Daniels earned a 77.0 grade from Pro Football Focus for his blocking during the 2020 season. He earned a 67.0 grade for the 2021 season.
With injuries on the Lions’ offensive line adding up, adding Daniels to the roster makes sense.
The Indianapolis Colts signed Daniels as a UDFA following the 2017 NFL Draft. Daniels has spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
