Safety Darnell Savage may have already played his last game in Green Bay Packers uniform as he has yet to get a second contract with the team. And with the Packers letting go of defensive coordinator Joe Barry, it’s fair to wonder again about the future of Savage in Green Bay. At the very least, it appears that Savage will have zero issues if it comes to a point where he realizes he will have to start a new chapter of his NFL career outside of Green Bay.
What’s Next For Green Bay Packers Safety Darnell Savage?
“I mean, (are there) frustrations? Yeah, because I know what I am and I know what I can be, you know?” Savage said after the Packers’ loss in the divisional round at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers (via Jason Wilde of Madison.com). “Everybody’s story is different, man. It takes some people longer to get to where they want to go. Me, I don’t think I’ll ever stop growing. I think I’ll always be that way, whether that’s here, whether that’s elsewhere.”
Savage was taken by the Packers in the first round (21st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Since then, he has recorded career totals of nine interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 302 combined tackles through 72 games.
It also doesn’t seem that the Packers are willing to invest much in a new contract for Savage, but that kind of stance can still change with a long 2024 offseason ahead.

The Packers added void years to Savage’s deal to help them with this year’s cap, so they have about $5.5 million in dead money already on the books for him in 2024. They could opt to move on unless he wants to re-sign on the cheap as a depth player in the secondary.
