Corbin Burnes has set many team and MLB records over the course of the past two seasons. In the Brewers’ first game in their series against the Giants, he set another one. With 10 strikeouts, Burnes recorded his 19th career game with 10+ punch outs, passing Yovani Gallardo for the most such games in team history. Burnes pitched 7.1 innings, allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks. He threw a season-high 115 pitches.

    The Offense Did Just Enough

The San Francisco Giants scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning. In the fourth inning, Rowdy Tellez scored on a sacrifice fly by Andrew McCutchen to cut the lead in half. Unfortunately, the Brewers were unable to score more than one run with the bases loaded and less than two outs in that inning.

In the sixth inning, Willy Adames hit a RBI single to score Jonathan Davis and even the score.

The score remained 2-2 as the game headed to extra innings. Christian Yelich did not start again due to a sore back. However, he was sent out as a pinch runner for Victor Caratini to start the 10th on second base. Luis Urias lined out to first and Tellez walked to start the inning. Adames grounded out to second, but the runners advanced to second and third with two outs.

Jonathan Davis then hit a chopper up the third base line that the Giants could not field in time. Yelich scored from third as Davis sped down the line for an infield single.

    The Brewers Bullpen Holds Firm

After 7.1 strong innings from Burnes, the Brewers bullpen continued to keep the Giants at bay. Hoby Milner threw one hitless inning of relief while Trevor Gott struck out both of the batters that he faced. Devin Williams came into the game in the bottom of the 10th and notched his sixth save of the season.

    • The Brewers improved to 50-40 and hold a three-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central
