The Milwaukee Brewers saw their five-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon. The Crew dropped their Sunday matinee 2-0 to their division rival Chicago Cubs. The loss, though, was in no way due to pitching. Corbin Burnes, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, made team history in the loss.
Burnes Matches Yovani Gallardo
Corbin Burnes finished his day with seven innings pitched, two runs given up (all earned), and 10 strikeouts. It was the third consecutive start in which he struck out 10 or more batters, tying Yovani Gallardo’s team record. The two earned runs inflated Burnes’ ERA all the way up to 1.93. He now owns a 1-1 record on the year.

The Brewers Offense Disappeared on Sunday
After scoring 20 runs in the first two games of the series, the Milwaukee Brewers offense only mustered three hits on Sunday afternoon. Tyrod Taylor had a double and Omar Narvaez and Willy Adames each had a hit.
As a team, the Brewers were 0-5 with runners in scoring position. Jace Pederson, who is struggling to start the year, was 0-2 with RISP and 0-3 with two strikeouts.
Rowdy Tellez was 0-1, but reached base twice by drawing two walks. Adames also reached base on a walk.
The Chicago Cubs Key Players
Marcus Stroman earned the win for the Chicago Cubs by tossing seven innings of two-hit ball. He had one walk and five strikeouts. The Cubs’ right-hander is now 1-3 with a 5.13 ERA on the season.
Patrick Wisdom got the Cubs on the board with a solo home run off of Burnes in the fifth inning. It was his fourth home run of the season. The Cubs scored again on an RBI double by Seiya Susuki in the sixth inning.
