Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love will be squaring off on Sunday night football, and both quarterbacks have had very interesting seasons for their respective teams. Mahomes is viewed as the best quarterback in the NFL for the Kansas City Chiefs, and Love is viewed as a work in progress for the Green Bay Packers.
Kansas City is 8-3 on the year and currently leads the AFC West division. Patrick Mahomes has completed 68.1% of his passes this season for 2,917 yards, 21 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Mahomes has one of the worst receiving cores in the NFL this season.
They led the league in drops, and one of the wide receivers he has on the roster is former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Mahomes, outside of tight end Travis Kelce, has not had anyone to rely on. Kadarius Toney is always injured, and Mecole Hardman Jr. is currently injured.
Rookie Rasheed Rice needs to be his top wide receiver moving forward, as he caught eight passes for 107 yards receiving and one touchdown. Rice averaged 13.4 yards per reception in the 31-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
As for Jordan Love this season for the Green Bay Packers, he has completed 60.5% of his passes for 2,599 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. For people who are saying Love is a bust, he has nearly as many passing touchdowns and interceptions this season as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.
The only things that make a big time difference are the yardage and the completion percentage.
Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love Could Go Toe-For-Toe on Sunday Night Football
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers both need to win this football game this weekend. Green Bay is 5-6, and they are currently the eighth seed in the NFC playoff picture. They trail the Seattle Seahawks (6-5) for the final wild-card spot in the NFC.
This is a primetime game, and a lot of eyeballs will be on Patrick Mahomes, but people will also start to see what Jordan Love is potentially made of. He is showing tons of progress for the Green Bay Packers over the last two weeks. If Love outduels Mahomes and wins the game 31-28, a lot of people will talk about how Jordan Love arrived next Monday morning.
He has a very young receiving core with Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs. Green Bay’s receiving core is young, but they are also getting better. The Chiefs have lost a couple of prime-time games this season, and they are not unbeatable. Jordan Love will need to be ready from the get-go to have a chance to pull off the upset against Patrick Mahomes and also a better Chiefs defense this season.
