The Cincinnati Reds have placed Joey Votto on the 10-day IL with left shoulder discomfort. This is the same side that he had rotator cuff surgery on and his rehabilitation caused him to miss most of the first half of the season. In a corresponding roster move Nick Senzel has been recalled.
Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has been placed on the 10-day IL with left shoulder discomfort.
Prior to being placed on the IL Joey Votto was slashing .200/.303/.459 with 13 home runs in 51 games played. The 39 year old was striking out a bit more than normal (28.2%) and not hitting for a high batting average, but he was doing damage when he was putting the ball in play.
With Votto out it is likely that Spencer Steer will take over first base. They do have another option for Trey Mancini signed a minor league contract yesterday. A roster move would have to be made in order to get him on the Reds active roster, but he is an option at any point.
It is unclear how long Votto will be out for, but the Reds are currently battling for the final Wild Card spot in which they are tied with the Chicago Cubs currently and are 3.5 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central.
