The Chicago Bears appear to have backed out of a massive trade less than two weeks prior to their matchup with the Green Bay Packers. Both the Bears and Packers have been at the center of massive trades this off-season.
Of course, the Packers traded away their franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The move signified the start of the Jordan Love era in Green Bay. The Bears traded away their number-one overall draft pick for multiple assets, including wide receiver D.J. Moore, that they hope will help Fields succeed. However, it appears the Bears won’t be committing to another massive trade right now.
The Chicago Bears Back Out Of Jonathan Taylor Sweepstakes Prior To Their Matchup With The Green Bay Packers
During a press briefing on Sunday, August 27, Schefter spoke on the matter saying, “They’re not in on Jonathan Taylor.”.
Earlier this offseason, the Bears were also linked to Saquon Barkley, a member of the New York Giants who just signed a contract to remain a member of the team following a long holdout.
Despite injuries on the offensive line, Taylor would have made a great complement to Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
His leading rushing attempts (332), yards (1,811), and touchdowns (18) in 2021 earned him first-team All-Pro honors. Additionally, Taylor caught 40 passes for 360 yards and two touchdowns that season, according to Pro Football Reference. After playing just 11 games due to injury last year, his numbers regressed significantly. Even so, Taylor ran for over 850 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per carry.
Who Are The Bears Running Backs Headed Into Their Matchup With The Packers?
For the Bears going into the 2023 season, Khalil Herbert, D’Onta Foreman, as well as rookie Roschon Johnson appear to be the top options at running back.
In his first two seasons with the Chicago Bears, Khalil Herbert spent the majority of his time working in the shadow of David Montgomery, but now that Montgomery has left the team, Herbert will likely take over as the lead running back for the team.
As per Pro Football Reference, Foreman posted career-high totals across the board during the 2022 season while playing for the Carolina Panthers. He had 203 attempts for 914 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and scored five touchdowns.
Either way, neither of these players are at the level of Jonathan Taylor. It will be interesting to see how the Bears manage their running game in 2023.
