The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears will face off in Week 18 in a “win and in” scenario for the Packers. Coming off their dominant 33-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings, the Packers control their own destiny to the post-season.
The only thing standing in their way? Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears. Today, one of the Bears star players made a pretty shocking statement about Fields.
Chicago Bears Wide Receiver D.J. Moore Makes Emphatic Statement About Justin Fields Prior To Green Bay Packers Matchup
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team:
Bears WR DJ Moore on Justin Fields and his future:
“He’s ‘Him.’ I want him to be the quarterback. I said what I said; now it’s on the higher-ups. It’s up to them.”
The progress Fields has made so far has not been impressive. During his 12 starts, he threw for 2,414 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His completion percentage (60.4 percent) is roughly comparable to his performance in 2022 (60.4 percent), and his QBR has fallen from 56.3 percent to 46.3 percent.
You get sold on him again after a performance like Week 17 when he defeated the Atlanta Falcons 37-17. He completed 20-of-32 passing attempts for 268 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 45 yards and one score on 11 carries. Fans will get enthralled by his highlight runs or above average performance here and there but will forget he is 10-27 as a starter in this league. That includes an 0-5 record against Green Bay.
Chicago will have the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft (via the Carolina Panthers) as well as another mid-round pick due to their 7-9 record (currently). If the Bears decide to trade down and acquire more assets for Justin Fields and this offense instead of investing in a new franchise quarterback, it could set their team back another 4-5 years.

What Mr. Arnold doesn’t state is why Fields has some of the statistics he has. Consider: Two completely different coaching staffs in his first two years as a pro. Tough for any incoming QB. A first time play-caller in Luke Getsy who has struggled with maximizing the assets of a true dual-threat QB. Lack of draft capital and free agent money thanks to the old GM who set the Bears back years with his decisions. A complete tear down of the roster by new GM Ryan Poles. The Bears wouldn’t have won with Tom Brady back there. A team that couldn’t get off the field on 3rd down that was literally the worst run defense in the NFL, so he was consistently playing from behind. A terrible offensive line that had Fields running for his life. Probably the worst group of WR’s in the league. Now that the O-line has gotten a little better, the acquisition of a true #1 WR in DJ Moore, upgraded personnel on defense and you see his improvement. He has 8 TD and 0 INT’s and a 74% completion rate when targeting DJ Moore (something like 6 TD’s and 5 INT’s and a 63% comp rate to everyone else including consistent drops by Tonyan, Scott, and others). Get him another quality WR (Harrison Jr, Odunze) in the draft and a better center to solidify the O-line and watch how special he can be. Trade that #1 pick to the Pats or Washington and you not only get Harrison Jr, but future picks to set up a nice run over the next couple years to really build out this roster. Fields will cost about $6 mil next yr and the 5th yr option will be around $23 mil. So roughly $15 mil per yr for the next 2 years at QB which is cheap AND acquiring top tier draft talent with the added draft capital. How can that set this franchise back 4-5 yrs?
Don’t assume JF1 will not improve and will set back Bears 4-5 years. Several top WR1 available paired with DJ Moore and second pick a dominant DE next year they can win NFC North. This game will be better than last and GB will struggle to win. Pressure on GB, remember Lions in 22? Deja vu all over again?
