    Bucks Mid-Season Grades: Donte DiVincenzo

DiVincenzo, the former 17th overall pick in 2018 for the Bucks, all but had his bags packed. He was set to be dealt in the in famous leaked trade, that would have netted the Bucks, Bogdan Bogdanovic. Well, due to the leagues investigation on tampering Bogdanovic went to the Hawks and DiVincenzo remained with the Bucks. Possibly a blessing in disguise? Well fast forward a few months later and DiVincenzo has became the 5th starter for a good Bucks team.

    The Good

Launched into a starting role at shooting guard to start the season, DiVincenzo has responded well. While having a career year from three, Donte is averaging over ten points a game for the first time in his career. The Bucks just needed a consistent and reliable 5th starter since that’s something they didn’t get from Wesley Matthews last season. Aside from the increased offensive output, DiVincenzo has still been a solid player on the defensive end of the floor. His ability to guard both guard spots and to disrupt passing lanes has help this Bucks defense.

    The Bad

A few issues stick out to me for DiVincenzo this season. The first is the eye test, particularly on drives to the hoop. When watching him at times it seems like he is a bit out of control, and putting up shots that seem more difficult than needed. A spot where he could back it out or look to kick to an open guy; he is instead trying to force it up. His decreased shooting percentage within the 3 point line shows where he can improve. The second thing that is concerning is his huge decline in free throw percentage. It is nearly 10 percent lower than his career average, and hovering just above 63 percent. His decline is a cause for concern heading toward playoff time.

    Grade B-

Maybe a bit harsh considering his role on the team. However, the need for the Bucks to have guys who can score consistently enough to take pressure off Giannis and Middleton come playoff time is huge. However, DiVincenzo hasn’t been consistent enough for the dribble. However, I like the outlook for Donte, as he builds chemistry with this team going forward. For more mid-season grades, click here.
