The Milwaukee Brewers announced prior to Monday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals that reliever Thyago Vieira will be placed on the injured list with a calf strain. In response to that roster move, RHP Colin Rea has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville to fill that roster spot.

Vieira made two appearances for the Brewers where he allowed one unearned run in the loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday. In just three innings of work, he struck out two and walked one. Vieira was called up earlier this month after optioning LHP Clayton Andrews to Triple-A.
Vieira was signed back in January by the crew where he spent the majority of the 2023 season with the Nashville Sounds. With the Sounds, he posted a 2-2 record, 3.35 ERA, recorded 51 strikeouts, and walked 15 in 37.2 innings of work.
Milwaukee Brewers Call Up Colin Rea
Colin Rea, who originally took Adrian Houser’s spot in the rotation when he was on the injured list, last appeared on the mound for Milwaukee last Wednesday in a relief role. He allowed one run across four innings, striking out three batters. He was optioned to Triple-A just four days ago.
In 23 games (21 starts), Rea has a 5-6 record, 4.89 ERA with 100 strikeouts, has walked 35, and a WHIP of 1.23. It’s likely that we will see Rea on the bump for Milwaukee in Tuesday’s contest against the Cardinals, or even work in a relief role at some point in the series, as he hasn’t pitched since his last appearance with the Brewers.
