Milwaukee Brewers’ 20-year-old catching prospect Jeferson Quero was linked in Pete Alonso trade rumors before the trade deadline this season, according to sources. Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported the Brewers made a significant push to acquire him, but it did not happen.
Brewers Catching Prospect Linked to Pete Alonso Trade Rumors
Alonso has one year remaining on his contract with the Mets, and trade rumors will swirl again once the MLB offseason rolls around. There were several Milwaukee Brewers prospects mentioned in this potential deal, but top prospect outfielder Jackson Chourio was not a part of this potential trade.
Four of the players that were mentioned as the potential centerpiece of a deal were prospects outfielder Sal Frelick, catcher Jeferson Quero, right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, and third baseman Tyler Black.
It feels as if the one player the Brewers couldn’t afford to get rid of in a trade like that is Quero. He is the future starting catcher of this franchise. It wouldn’t make sense to trade him to the Mets because they have Francisco Alvarez and also have Kevin Parada in their farm system, as well.
Jackson Quero is also only 20 years old and was signed as an international free agent on July 2, 2019. Quero is projected to reach the Majors next season. He has played all of 2023 with the Biloxi Shuckers in Double-A. It will be interesting to see when he reaches Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds.
Milwaukee Brewers Need to Hang Onto Jeferson Quero

The day that the Milwaukee Brewers call up Jeferson Quero to the Big Leagues is when he will stay there for quite some time. Milwaukee has one of the better farm systems in all of baseball. During the 2023 season with Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, he has a .272 batting average with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs, along with three stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .349.
He is 5’11” and weighs 215 lbs. Quero is a right-handed hitter and a right-handed defensive catcher. His defense has gotten better in the minor leagues, and he has some pop in his bat.
William Contreras is 25 years old and is one of the catchers on the roster. He should be around on the roster next season. The other catcher on the roster is Victor Caratini, who is 30 years old and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2023 season.
The Pete Alonso trade talks this offseason will probably resume. If the Milwaukee Brewers were to make a blockbuster move with the New York Mets, catcher Jeferson Quero should be off-limits.
