On April seventh Brandon Woodruff suffered a shoulder injury in his start against the St. Louis Cardinals. The next day the right-hander was placed on the 15-day IL with shoulder inflammation. However, reports came in later on that stated Woodruff had suffered a subscapularis strain and that he would need a longer recovery.
According to recent reports from Sophia Mineart, Brandon Woodruff has now undergone his second MRI during this stint on the injured list. The good news is that the results of the MRI must have been encouraging because Mineart wrote that the Brewers will “move forward building him up”. However, no timeline has been given so it’s still unclear when the two-time all-star will return.
Brewers injury updates:
• Brandon Woodruff had a follow up MRI on Wednesday and they’ll move forward building him up but TBD on timeline.

This is obviously a huge blow for the Brewers’ rotation. Woodruff is not an easy player to replace. So far Milwaukee has experimented with Janson Junk and Colin Rea as replacements. Junk made one start and allowed four runs in four and two-thirds of an inning. The following three starts were all made by Colin Rea. In those three starts, Rea has provided the Brewers with just 15.2 innings and owns a 5.17 ERA. So it is clear the Brewers are struggling to find a good replacement.
Losing a star starting pitcher is always a big loss for a team and it has been no different for the Brewers. The good news is that Woodruff seems to be moving in the right direction. Hopefully, all goes according to plan and the right-hander is back in the rotation as soon as possible.
