The Milwaukee Brewers finished the 2022 season 86-76 and missed the Playoffs. It ended a run of four-straight postseason appearances, which had never happened before in franchise history. All throughout the season, the Brewers will plagued with poor hitting and a shaky bullpen. As a team, they had a .315 on base percentage, which was right at league average. They had an above-average OPS, but their .235 batting average as a team was well-below the league average. Additionally, their 1,464 strikeouts were the fourth-most in all of baseball. Perhaps that is what makes the rumors surrounding their hitters being desired by other teams so surprising. In a recent article, the Chicago White Sox were encouraged to sign Brewers free agent utility man, Jace Peterson.
Jace Peterson Is the Latest Brewers Infielder Rumored to Be on the Move
Earlier this weekend, we reported on rumors that the Detroit Tigers would be interested in trading for Luis Urias. We also reported on a rumor that the Los Angeles Dodgers were interested in trading for Willy Adames. In a recent article over on ClutchPoints, writer Owen Crisafulli stated:
“Considering how Moncada hit just .212 last season, the White Sox need to have an insurance plan at third base in case he struggles. Peterson can fill in wherever you need him, but he could also take over the starting role for Moncada if he continues to struggle. Peterson likely won’t be an expensive addition, and could be a vital piece of Chicago’s lineup if things continue to go south for Moncada”
This past season, Peterson hit .236/.316/.382 with eight home runs and 34 RBI. He made appearances first base, second base, third base, left field, right field, and even pitcher. However, his on-base percentage has gone down in each of this three seasons with the Brewers: .393 (2020) to .348 (2021) to .316. Peterson is certainly a valuable player to have on any team due to his ability to play multiple positions. However, if the White Sox are hoping for an improved bat from Peterson, they may be disappointed.
