Upon the conclusion of the 2022 season, the Brewers had six players become MLB free agents. Those players were Josh Lindblom, Andrew McCutchen, Omar Narvaez, Jace Peterson, Taylor Rogers, and Trevor Rosenthal. Of the six, two were mid-season acquisitions and two never threw a pitch in the big leagues in 2022. With Matt Arnold currently putting together a roster for the 2023 season, here we will take a way too early look at which at the Brewers 2024 MLB free agents.
The list of impending free agents upon the conclusion of the 2023 season is short. As it stands today, the Brewers have just two players who will become free agents.
Brewers 2024 Impending MLB Free Agent No. 11: Jesse Winker
Winker was brought over to the Brewers this offseason in the Kolten Wong trade. Abraham Toro was also a part of that package, but Winker has just one year on his contract remaining. Winker is coming off a bad offensive season in 2022, so he will look for a bounce-back season in Milwaukee before becoming one of the 2024 MLB free agents.
Having Winker on a contract year is not a bad thing. How he performs during the 2023 season will largely dictate how big of a contract he gets in free agency. It is in his best interest to put up big numbers and to be a top contributor on the Brewers.
Brewers 2024 Impending Free Agent No. 2: Victor Caratini
Caratini was acquired via trade prior to the start of the 2022 season. The Brewers had to scramble to find a backup catcher after Pedro Severino tested positive for a banned substance. Caratini ended up being that guy and he ended up starting more games than Omar Narvaez last season.
Unfortunately, Caratini struggled during the second half of the season. Due to this, the Brewers are currently trying to upgrade at the catcher position. Mario Feliciano and Payton Henry are both on the 40-man roster as depth pieces, so unless Caratini can find success and sustain it for an entire season, he may end up being an MLB free agent after next season.
