Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (5) celebrates with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) and wide receiver Josh Reynolds (8) after scoring a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers during their football game on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.

Once again, the Green Bay Packers defense, led by defensive coordinator Joe Barry, were unable to stop their opponent’s running backs with any kind of consistency in their 34-20 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday night. Detroit’s running game, led by David Montgomery, ran the ball 43 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Montgomery, who defeated the Packers for the first time in his career, gashed them for 134 yards and all three of those rushing touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers were embarrassed at home on Thursday night, losing 34-20 against the Detroit Lions. It was Detroit’s fourth consecutive win over Green Bay, and it did not seem as close as the two-touchdown difference would make it appear. Related: Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Calls Out Joe Barry in the 4th Quarter of Loss to Detroit Lions Of course, this is because the Packers spent most of the night battling from down multiple scores. After Rudy Ford intercepted Jared Goff on the first series of the game, the Packers offense could generate nothing and settled for a field…

After scoring 14 unanswered points in the second half, the Green Bay Packers defense resorted to its old ways of giving up too many yards on the ground. The Packers were able to cut a 27-3 halftime deficit to 27-17 after a Christian Watson touchdown catch and Jordan Love touchdown run. After those scores, though, the Lions ran the ball down the field, eating up clock, and scored a touchdown to ice the game with 6:00 left on the clock. The lack of creative play-calling and their inability to stop the run in crunch time led former Packers quarterback Kurt…

The Green Bay Packers are looking flat-footed in every aspect of their Thursday night game against the Detroit Lions. They are missing several key players, including All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari who was put on IR after having another surgery on his knee. In addition, the Packers are playing without left guard Elgton Jenkins (knee), Jaire Alexander (back), and De’Vondre Campbell (ankle). Towards the end of the first half, they also lost their starting tight end, rookie Luke Musgrave, to a possible concussion. The Green Bay Packers are 2-1 following their 18-17 come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Saints. At one point, the Packers trailed 17-0 thanks, in large part, to sloppy play and penalties on both sides of the ball. Indeed, the amount of times Green Bay has been flagged for mistakes is a concern. According to Team Rankings, the Packers rank 31st out 32 NFL teams with 9.0 penalties per game. In their nailbiter against New Orleans, the were flagged 11 times. This is a stark contrast to last year when Green Bay averaged 5.2 penalties per game, which ranked seventh…
