The Green Bay Packers lost on Monday night against the New York Giants but may have lost a huge piece as running back AJ Dillon revealed he is dealing with a broken thumb. He told reporters that he suffered the injury during the game and was seen wearing a brace on his thumb. AJ Dillon also told the media he did not want to go into too much detail.
It is unclear if running back AJ Dillon is going to be available for Sunday’s home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He finished Monday’s game with 15 rushing attempts for 53 yards (3.5 yards per carry) as well as two receptions for 25 yards (12.5 yards per catch).
He has been the Packers’ leading rusher as on the year he has 164 carries for 574 yards (3.5 yards per attempt) with a rushing touchdown as well as 22 catches on 28 targets for 223 yards (10.1 yards per reception). It will be interesting to see how this injury affects the team as a whole.
How will AJ Dillon’s injury affect the Green Bay Packers playoff chances?
The Green Bay Packers have been holding their own throughout the season as they are currently seventh in the NFC and would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. However, if AJ Dillon is forced to miss time, it will be difficult to expect much production in the running game. The Green Bay Packers are averaging 106.3 rushing yards per game as a team and need Dillon’s production to continue playing well.
The Green Bay Packers have a schedule that should invoke some confidence in their playoff chances as there are definitely some winnable games remaining. The biggest positive is the fact three of their last four games are at home.
Green Bay Packers remaining 2023 schedule
- Week 15: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Week 16: at Carolina Panthers
- Week 17: vs. Minnesota Vikings
- Week 18: vs. Chicago Bears
Quarterback Jordan Love has shown to do enough to bring the Packers to the point where they can win games down the stretch. With just a 6-7 record and holding the tiebreakers over the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, they are going to need to step up and continue winning. They are in a great spot to win and just need to keep winning games.
