We’re going on three weeks in April with no Aaron Rodgers trade finalized. Rodgers explicitly stated he intended to play for the New York Jets this coming season. The Jets and Green Bay Packers have been in talks to complete a trade, but neither side seems willing to budge on what they deem is the proper compensation for a deal. A new rumor has spread that Rodgers has given the Packers an ultimatum on the trade.

Rodgers has been linked to a couple of teams this week if the Jets can’t agree to terms with the Packers. The San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans are linked to the 39-year-old quarterback for next season. However, Rodgers pretty much shuts down those trade talks if he retires.
Rumor floats Aaron Rodgers trade ultimatum
A rumor posted on Twitter by @NFLNotify, which claims to have insider information, wrote that Rodgers told his representation that he would be either traded to the Jets or he would retire. If Rodgers plays for the Jets or retires, the Packers would be on the hook for $40 million. They’d at least get something for Rodgers in a trade. But if he decides to play as Jordan Love’s backup next season, the Packers would have to pay Rodgers $68 million. That would be the most expensive backup quarterback contract in league history.

Things could change, but this is not good for Green Bay.
They can:
A) Trade Rodgers for whatever the Jets are willing to give and still pay him $40M.
B) Rodgers can retire and… pic.twitter.com/z1dFb3e6KV

One should point out here that @NFLNotify is not super reliable. They did not name their source, which isn’t all that uncommon these days with major reports, even from major media organizations. But this should be considered a rumor and not a reliable report. That being said, it is logical that Rodgers, who said he was 90 percent retired this offseason, would decide to end his career this offseason if he wasn’t traded to the Jets.
Fans respond to rumored Aaron Rodgers trade ultimatum
Packers and Jets fans are checking on the trade deal to be finalized. Here are the best takes of the rumored Aaron Rodgers trade ultimatum to the Packers.
Ouch. @sidelinescoop1 Can we stop with all these other rumors of AR12 going to different teams now? This also kills any perceived leverage GB believes they have. It's either @Jets or nobody. #Packers #Jets #NFL https://t.co/AA7Gu3wZH9

The ignorance of Packers is mind boggling on not trying to get something instead of forcing him retire. https://t.co/jenGYrwG57

Can someone who understands football business better than me tell me why Rodgers can’t retire, collect the $40m from the Packers, then sign a new contract for the difference w the Jets? Jets have to pay them anyway, and this way they’d get him for 0 draft capital. https://t.co/42Ey6gX4mQ

I feel like at this point it would be better to get something rather than nothing?
Maybe I am wrong though. https://t.co/IGodQZEuuZ
