Aaron Rodgers trade rumors continue to dominate the headlines despite the fact that the Super Bowl has not yet been played. Even though Tom Brady has already announced his own retirement, Rodgers stated on The Pat McAfee Show that he would wait until after the Super Bowl to make his decision about whether or not he wants to play in 2023. If he does come back, there is no guarantee that he would want to come back again in 2024, the final year of his contract. This, according to one NFL insider, is a MAJOR concern for NFL teams.
Aaron Rodgers’ Year-to-Year Approach May Scare Off Possible Trade Partners

To be clear: Rodgers has not yet made a decision on 2023, nor has the Green Bay Packers organization officially said anything about wanting to trade him. All of these trade scenarios are just rumors and speculation at this point. For all of the talk of which team is the favorite to have Aaron Rodgers under center, many ignore the fact that the Packers themselves are the odds-on-favorite.
That being said, there is a feeling among NFL teams and insiders that this is the year that Rodgers will be traded (if he decides to come back at all). If he does, and if the Green Bay Packers decide to trade him, they will obviously require some draft pick compensation in return. According to Jeremy Fowler, though, teams may be reluctant to meet the Packers’ asking price because there would be no guarantee Rodgers plays more than one more season.
One way the Packers could get a desired deal done would be to make any draft pick compensation beyond 2023 conditional on Rodgers’ playing in 2024. In other words, any team that acquires Rodgers via trade this year would likely send over picks for this upcoming draft and next year’s. The picks for this year’s draft would be guaranteed compensation for the Packers. However, if Rodgers decided to retire after the 2023 season, the team that acquired him would not have to lose out on another draft pick.
