Kurt Benkert has always been a fan favorite in Green Bay. Many Packers fans were excited when Benkert signed with the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas. He started the game this past weekend and had some excellent throws. However, he got crushed on a hit, leaving many wondering whether he would be okay. Benkert tweeted today that he got an unfortunate injury update.

Kurt Benkert Injury Update
Benkert tweeted out the unfortunate news this morning. He has three fractured ribs which will likely keep him off the field for the rest of the season. From past reports of fractured ribs, it seems like a painful injury. Players have been able to play through it but only with extra padding and a lot of painkillers. It is unclear whether Benkert will try to go this route in order to play or shut it down in order to heal fully. For fans who were excited to watch Benkert in the second half of the XFL season, it is a disappointment.

Benkert Looked Really Good
I don’t want the injury update to take away from how good Benkert looked in the game. He threw a perfect deep ball that would’ve been a touchdown had the defender not committed pass inference by tackling the receiver. He also threw a short touchdown pass that looked like vintage Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams. It is clear that he picked up some tricks during his time in Green Bay. This is what makes the rib injury even more devastating. He could’ve had a great back half of the season and created some excitement.
Packers fans will follow what Kurt Benkert is doing for the rest of time. It is cool to see a backup quarterback make this kind of connection with a fan base and hopefully Benkert will make a full recovery and be ready to go for his next football endeavor.
