Another Green Bay Packers offseason is upon us, and once again, it came far too early. The 2022 season was surely a disappointment to many. Prior to the season, the Packers were believed to have a top-ten offense and defense. As it turns out, their best unit was special teams (thanks in large part to Keisean Nixon), which had historically been their worst unit. The offseason has brought several questions with it, not the least of which concerns the future of Aaron Rodgers. With the questions come rumors, and with rumors come former Packers players who think the rumors are ridiculous.
LeRoy Butler Points to Last Season’s Rumor Concerning Aaron Rodgers
One of the rumors surrounding Aaron Rodgers is the idea that the Packers will trade him to the New York Jets. According to reports, if Green Bay decides to trade the four-time MVP, it would cost whatever team acquires him two first-round draft picks. Jets owner Woody Johnson has stated that he would “happily” give up those picks for Rodgers.
Johnson’s statement led many to believe the Packers could try to trade Rodgers to the Jets. This belief was given more credibility when the Jets hired from Green Bay offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator.
LeRoy Butler, though, remembers last offseason:
“Have you herd the Rumor that Rodgers going to @nyjets “yawn 🥱 Yeah remember he was going to Denver too!

Hackett, of course, left the Packers to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos. However, he was fired before the season even ended, lasting just 15 games.
Butler’s response echoes the sentiments of many Green Bay fans. There will always be rumors until a trade is made, Rodgers retires, or the season begins.
Best to just sit back and watch.
