The Milwaukee Brewers made a couple of roster moves on Monday. In doing so, their plans for the Opening Day roster and infield have come into focus.
The Brewers Officially Sign Brian Anderson
Last week, it was announced that Milwaukee had agreed to a contract with infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson. The deal was pending a physical. That physical has been completed and the contract is now official. Per Adam McCalvy, the Brewers plan to use Anderson both in the infield and the outfield this season.

The Brewers, of course, have a few questions in terms of who will play third base and second base this season. Anderson has played plenty of third base in his career and could compete for the Opening Day start at that position. In fact, the majority of the games that Anderson has played in his career have come at third base (332). He also has appeared in 182 games in right field, eight games in left field, and two games at second base.

First Baseman Jon Singleton Was Designated for Assignment
In a corresponding move, power-hitting first baseman Jon Singleton was designated for assignment to make room for Anderson on the 40-man roster. The 30 year-old left-handed slugger spent the entire 2022 season with the Nashville Sounds. He hit .219/.375/.434 with 24 home runs and 87 RBI.
Singleton’s addition to the 40-man roster earlier this offseason was confusing at the time. Milwaukee already has a power-hitting first baseman in Rowdy Tellez and Singleton is out of minor league options.
