Jordy Nelson was scheduled to be inducted into the Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame this summer. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony was postponed. Nelson, though, will not have to wait too long to be honored, as his home state of Kansas is inducting him into their Sports Hall of Fame.
Jordy Nelson had a storied NFL career, playing ten of his eleven seasons with the Green Bay Packers. As a Packer, he racked up career totals of 550 receptions, 7,848 yards, and 69 touchdowns. A key member of the Superbowl XLV winning team, he made the Pro Bowl in 2014, but missed the entire 2015 season due to a torn knee in the preseason. He won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2016 after leading the NFL with 14 touchdown receptions. Nelson finished his career with the Oakland Raiders in 2018.
Prior to being drafted by the Packers second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, Jordy Nelson was a standout wide receiver at Kansas State University. During this three-year college career, Nelson had 2,822 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. He is still the school’s record holder for most receptions in a game (15); most receiving yards in a game (214); most receiving yards in a season (1,606); and receiving yards per game in one season (133.8).
Jordy Nelson was also a three-sport athlete at Riley County High School in Kansas. He played football, basketball, and track. Nelson led his basketball team to the state tournament three years in a row. In addition, he was also an all-state basketball selection in 2003. He also won five Kansas state track championships.
