The Green Bay Packers have had several former players find new homes this off-season. As it turns out, there are a few more out there who are still looking. Former Packers starting cornerback Kevin King could be a potential target of an NFC Rival. The Dallas Cowboys have been urged to target the veteran CB after their secondary has suffered some injuries.
Kevin King To The Dallas Cowboys?
There may not be a player with more negativity tied to his name in the recent history of the Green Bay Packers than Kevin King. Not only did the Packers trade down and miss out on TJ Watt, but King has been injured often and was terrible in the Packers’ loss to the Buccaneers in the 2020 NFC Championship Game.
The Green Bay Packers already have a stellar trio at cornerback. Indeed, Jaire Alexander, Rasul Douglas, and Eric Stokes may be the best trio in the NFL. Depth at cornerback is still a question. The Packers have made it clear that Kevin King is likely not the answer. The Packers brought him back on a one-year prove-it deal last season, but he could not stay healthy. Quarterbacks also had a passer rating of 108.9 when targeting receivers Kevin King covered. Perhaps it is time to finally say “Goodbye” to the former second-round pick.
Fresh Start?
However, could a fresh start elsewhere be what King needs? According to the Dallas’ website, the Cowboys recently suffered a loss in their secondary. Jourdan Lewis suffered an unusual pre-game injury that caused him to miss the entirety of the contest last week.
“Jourdan Lewis was noticeably absent when the Cowboys took the field against the Washington Commanders on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn’t without reason,” the team’s staff wrote. “The veteran safety suffered a groin injury in pregame warmups that led to him being questionable at one point, then downgraded to out for the contest before it concluded.”
This leaves their secondary needing a cornerback. Kevin King, at the very least, would provide veteran experience. Let’s not forget, Mike McCarthy was the head coach of Green Bay when the Packers took King in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft.
