Milwaukee Bucks stud MarJon Beauchamp made all sorts of headlines on Monday following his outstanding performance in his team’s 105-102 preseason win against the Chicago Bulls. The second-year small forward came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points en route to helping the Bucks escape with a victory in their preseason opener.
MarJon Beauchamp Looking to Take Big Step for Milwaukee Bucks
Supporters are looking forward to a big year ahead from Beauchamp this season, especially considering how he’s expected to take on a bigger role under new head coach Adrian Griffin. The 22-year-old himself recently spoke out about the coaching change in Milwaukee and how it has been beneficial for him from a personal standpoint:
“It’s a big change, because last year if I did foul, I’m coming out the game,” Beauchamp said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “This year, they want me to be aggressive, so I can’t wait. Just to (play) freely and be able to use my length, use my ability of my strength.”
Beauchamp isn’t throwing shade at former shot-caller Mike Budenholzer here. However, there’s also no denying that Milwaukee’s first-round pick from the 2022 NBA Draft just didn’t get enough opportunities under Coach Bud in his rookie year last term. It sounds like this won’t be the case for him under Griffin.
“I got stronger this year. I just can’t wait to put it out there. It’s going to be different,” he added.
Adrian Griffin Likes What He Sees from MarJon Beauchamp
After Sunday’s eye-opening performance, Coach Griffin had nothing but praise for Beauchamp. The rookie coach noted how he believes the former Yakima Valley Community College standout can play a significant role for the Bucks, particularly on the defensive end.
Griffin believes that defense is mostly about grit and desire, and these are two things he has seen from Beauchamp since he took over as the team’s new head coach. Griffin said that he thought Beauchamp “imposed his will today on both sides of the ball,” and that this is exactly what they will expect from the young man in what could be a breakout year for him.
