Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta has been on a tear over his last handful of starts. During his last five outings he has covered 30.2 innings, gave up 19 hits, allowed five earned runs (1.49 ERA), issued just seven free passes, and has struck out 50 batters. He has been so good during this stretch, especially with racking up strikeouts, that he has tied a franchise record that was set by Corbin Burnes in 2021.
Freddy Peralta has tied a Milwaukee Brewers franchise record set by Corbin Burnes in 2021.
During Corbin Burnes 2021 Cy Young season he recorded a franchise record of 50 strikeouts over five starts from August 30-September 25. His line over this time period was 32.0 innings pitched, 21 hits allowed, eight earned runs (2.25 ERA), and seven walks. Burnes’ and Josh Hader’s combined no-hitter was a game played during that historic stretch.
Freddy Peralta managed to tie this strikeout record with an 11 strikeout performance in 5.2 innings pitched against the Texas Rangers. This streak began on July 26 against the Cincinnati Reds when fastball Freddy punched out 13 batters. He then struck out seven against the Washington Nationals, 13 against the Colorado Rockies, and six against the Chicago White Sox.
Aside from the strikeouts this was a much needed hot streak from Freddy Peralta. He has had an up and down season so far and after his outing against the Rangers his ERA is now under 3.97. If he can continue to pitch like an ace alongside Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff than Milwaukee becomes a very dangerous playoff team.
