The Green Bay Packers have a massive decision looming in the next couple of weeks. Do they bring Aaron Rodgers back for another season or move on to Jordan Love? That is a question that everyone around the NFL is waiting to be made and Rodgers is close to deciding whether or not he’s going to continue his playing career.
It seems likely that Rodgers will be returning for another season. Whether that season will be in Green Bay or another city is the biggest question that remains to be answered.
For the Packers, moving on from Rodgers seems to be the preference. However, that can get difficult after the way the split with Brett Favre went years ago. The franchise doesn’t want to go down that road with a guy who has been so loyal to the team his entire career thus far.
Love is absolutely ready to step into a starting role. He has shown flashes of a much-improved arm and has received glowing comments from Rodgers himself. Wasting another year of Love’s career may be a big mistake for the Packers, but that decision is not an easy one.
All of that being said, let’s dive in and take a look at why the Packers should move on with Love as their starter this offseason.
3 Reasons The Packers Should Choose Jordan Love
3. Quite Simply, Aaron Rodgers’ Age And The Current Roster
First up, we have to take into consideration the age of Rodgers and how he fits with the current roster moving forward. At 39 years of age, there is no question that Rodgers is entering the final year or two of his NFL career. With a roster that is built mostly on youth, that might not be a good fit for another year.
Rodgers is the kind of quarterback to have if you’re competing for a Super Bowl right now. Are the Packers really close at all to competing for a championship? That is the first question that the team needs to answer.
If the franchise cannot legitimately say that they could win a Super Bowl with the way the roster is built around Rodgers, they need to move on to Love.
2. Jordan Love Is Ready And Waiting
When the Packers selected Love with the No. 26 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, it was a move to plan for the future. It was a surprise when the decision was made, but Brian Gutekunst made the move anyway. Love has always been the future in Green Bay.
Over the past couple of years, Love has showcased a great work ethic and a much-improved game. He showed this season in limited time that he has the potential of being a very good quarterback. In order to continue developing, Love needs to get on the field and play meaningful snaps on a consistent basis.
Green Bay cannot afford to waste their risky pick from 2020. Love has developed as the Packers were hoping and it would be a shame to let him play out his entire rookie contract without actually playing real snaps.

1. The Packers Cannot End Up Losing Both
Finally, there is a very real situation that could develop with Jordan Love if the Packers do not switch to him this offseason. Love is entering the last year of his deal, and reports have come out that he could request a trade if he doesn’t start this season.
If the Packers truly view Love as their long-term future, causing drama between the two sides by going with Rodgers for another year would be a bad decision.
Let’s be fully honest about the situation. Whether it’s this offseason or next, Rodgers is going to move on from the Packers. He will either demand a trade or retire at some point very soon.
Since that is the reality of the situation, making the move to a young quarterback like Love makes more sense. It will break a lot of hearts, but it’s time for the Packers to move on from Rodgers.
