The Wisconsin football staff inched closer to landing a commitment in the 2026 class after making the initial cutdown of schools by a four-star recruit.
Gregory Patrick, a four-star offensive tackle in the 2026 recruiting class, recently cut his list of schools down to nine programs. Patrick included Wisconsin football in his list, and additionally added that he would no longer be speaking to any programs outside of his nine. Another cut down of his list is expected in the near future, and this could be just the first cut the Badgers survive.
Wisconsin Football Makes Initial Cut For Four-Star Offensive Tackle Gregory Patrick
The Wisconsin football program has made the cut for one of their top offensive line targets in the 2026 recruiting class. Gregory Patrick, a four-star recruit from Michigan, cut down his list of schools to nine and locked out the rest of the programs interested in him. Patrick included Wisconsin despite not having visited the campus yet.
The offensive tackle announced his final group of schools will be Alabama, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Penn State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
With Patrick, Wisconsin Badgers Football Gains Depth and Strength
The potential of landing Patrick is something the Wisconsin football staff loves due to what he can offer the team. At 6-feet-5-inches, 275-pounds, Patrick has far superior strength compared to his size and makes his presence known on the field. While Patrick is known for his strength on the field, he is also an agile pass-protector who can provide dynamic assistance with his array of blocking talents.
Whether he needs to bowl over someone in the middle of the field or fend off quick defensive ends to allow the quarterback to deliver a strike, Patrick can do it. The recruitment of the offensive tackle started to take off this summer as he is currently up to 22 scholarship offers before cutting down his schools.
Wisconsin already has plenty of lineman after loading up this past recruiting class, however they are always looking to add depth. The Badgers feel not only would Patrick be a great depth piece, but he also has the tools and versatility to sneak into the starting lineup.
Can the Wisconsin Football Staff Land a Commitment From Patrick in the Future?
While it is still very early in the recruitment of Patrick, there is still a great possibility that the recruit will commit to the Badgers. The reason behind that is the fact that Patrick has not logged a visit with Wisconsin yet, and has only been contacting the staff via texts, calls, and camps. Wisconsin intends on getting Patrick up to Madison for a game day experience, which could be pivotal in their recruitment of the offensive lineman.
The Wisconsin staff has done an excellent job with Patrick early even without having the recruit on campus yet. Nebraska and Alabama are also two programs who had not had Patrick on campus previously, but after hosting the recruit found a spot in his group of schools.
The two big schools to watch are going to be Michigan and Michigan State, as it seems unlikely that anyone will be able to pry Patrick away from staying in-state. Patrick is the son of a former Michigan State lineman and has a close relationship with Michigan Head Coach Sherrone Moore which further adds to his potential of staying in-state.
