The Milwaukee Bucks could potentially move on from Doc Rivers as head coach before next season. A season ago, they fired Mike Budenholzer after losing in the first round against the Miami Heat. The Bucks hired Adrian Griffin Jr. last offseason and Milwaukee was 30-13 this season before they got rid of him for Doc Rivers.
That move happened to backfire on this basketball franchise. Milwaukee needs to be more patient moving forward. Rivers has not won an NBA Championship since 2007-2008 with the Boston Celtics. Who are some potential coaching candidates to replace him in 2024-2025 and beyond potentially?
The Milwaukee Bucks Should Replace Doc Rivers With Darvin Ham If He Is Fired By the Los Angeles Lakers
The Bucks should bring back an old face to the franchise if Ham is fired by the Lakers. From 2018-2022, he was an assistant coach with Milwaukee and won an NBA title on that stuff with Mike Budenholzer. He has been the head coach for the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. Darvin Ham has a 90-74 record with the Lakers and he is from the issue.
The Lakers were the seventh seed in a very tough Western Conference both seasons. Los Angeles made it to the Conference Finals in 2022-2023 before getting swept to the Denver Nuggets. Denver also swept the Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs again this season.
Darvin Ham working with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard would not be an issue. He has worked well with Lebron James and Anthony Davis. If the Los Angeles Lakers make this mistake, the Milwaukee Bucks can not strike out here.
Terry Stotts
Stotts was brought on as an assistant on the Milwaukee Bucks last season before he bolted. Terry Stotts was the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers from 2012-2021 and has coached Damian Lillard before. Stotts had a .558 winning percentage with Portland.
The furthest he went in his coaching career was the Western Conference Finals in 2018-2019 before getting swept against the Golden State Warriors. Terry Stotts would be an interesting choice for the Milwaukee Bucks franchise. It would be a good thing to make Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo with this move and has had success in this league also.
Dan Hurley
Remember when people thought Brad Stevens wasn’t going to leave college basketball and coaching the Butler Bulldogs until he finally did for the Boston Celtics? Well, never say never about Dan Hurley wanting to leave the UCONN Huskies for the NBA. Hurley won back-to-back titles with the UCONN Huskies and it was the first time that has happened in college basketball since the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 Florida Gators.
Dan Hurley would bring in accountability and discipline to the Milwaukee Bucks. He would also be running a complex offense and have them playing defense.
