The Green Bay Packers are looking to make the turn into a true Superbowl contender after their impressive first season under Jordan Love in 2023-24. Heading into training camp, the Packers have many roster spots locked down. Though to build a Super-winning roster, the Packers must make difficult decisions when it comes to the final spots on the roster.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst has proven the ability to depart from key players, even starters like Aaron Jones and De’vondre Campbell this offseason alone. With the regular season around the corner, some positions are loaded with talent, unfortunately, this means some players will be searching for a new team shortly.
#3 Emanuel Wilson: Running Back Roster Shuffle Leaves Green Bay Packers Pre-Season Standout In Limbo

In the 2023 preseason, the Green Bay Packers found an apparent playmaker in their offense. The undrafted free agent Emanuel Wilson racked up over 200 yards on 38 attempts through the preseason, including a preseason-best 80-yard touchdown run in the first game of the preseason.

After this tsunami of a play, the Green Bay Packers finalized him as the No. 3 running back on the roster. Unfortunately for the young back, he was not able to maximize his rookie season due to a shoulder injury that occurred in week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers (coincidentally on the same drive as former starter Aaron Jones). Wilson would land on IR and not be seen again until playoffs where he found minimal production on even fewer touches.
In the 2024 offseason, the Green Bay Packers invested in free agent workhorse Josh Jacobs along with the addition of USC’s Marshawn Lloyd through the NFL draft. The addition of these talented ball carriers leaves three spots taken after beloved Packer AJ Dillon, if the Green Bay Packers decide that four running backs is not the direction they are going with the roster, Emanuel Wilson will be the odd man out.
#2 Sean Clifford: How Many QB’s Will Green Bay Packers Keep On The Roster?
![Green Bay Packers: Top 3 Surprising Cut Candidates In 2024 Offseason 2 Green Bay Packers Michael Pratt](https://wisportsheroics.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/USATSI_22292329_168400517_lowres-900x600.jpg)
In that same preseason, Sean Clifford emerged as a legitimate backup option for Jordan Love. In his three preseason games, he delivered over 370 yards displaying comfortability and ability to play QB at the NFL level.
Matt Lafleur confirmed everybody’s suspicions in the 2023 offseason.
“I think it’s safe to say Sean is our No. 2 quarterback,” LaFleur said, via Zach Kruse of USAToday.com. “A lot of it is just his mental makeup. You saw it in the Cincinnati game in terms of his ability to rebound. The game’s not too big for him.”
In the 2024 draft, the Green Bay Packers had the talented Tulane QB, Micheal Pratt, fall to the 25th pick in the seventh round. After some questionable OTA appearances from Sean Clifford as well as Micheal Pratt showing up looking tuned, Clifford’s role on the team is in question going into training camp.
Oh my gosh, Anderson gets a second pick off Clifford. DuBose couldn’t bring in across the middle https://t.co/m4mjOZQpyD

#1 Anders Carlson: 2023 Sixth-Round Kicker May Catch An Early Departure

Anders Carlson was brought in as the starting kicker after all-time Packers scorer Mason Crosby. Carlson sported an SEC pedigree out of Auburn as well as a football family (brother Daniel is a star kicker for the Raiders). Unfortunately for all parties, Anders had an extremely inconsistent rookie year despite his fifth-round draft position.
His up-and (mostly) down season came to haunt the Green Bay Packers in the 2024 playoffs, where he missed a crucial fourth-quarter kick that would have given the Packers a seven-point buffer against the eventual NFC Champion San Fransico 49ers with just six minutes remaining in the game. The Packers would go on to lose that game by three points after a 49ers touchdown.
In the 2024 offseason, the Packers quickly acquired competition for the kicking job including former Viking Greg Joseph as well as former Georgia standout Jack Podiesny. With rumors of even more legs entering camp by way of the UFL, the young kicker Carlson’s job could be taken with just one bad day.
