Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras was involved in a collision at home plate during Sunday’s series finale against the Cincinnati Reds. The incident occurred on the last play of the game and post game it was announced that he was being evaluated for a concussion. After traveling to Los Angeles to face the Angels news surfaced that he is clear of a concussion but he is getting an off day for the first game of the series and a reserve catcher traveled with the team just in case.
William Contreras took a massive blow to the head during the finale of Sundays’ game against the Cincinnati Reds.

With two outs in the ninth inning and the game tying run at second base Reds player Stuart Fairchild was waved around home after a base knock. Blake Perkins delivered a perfect strike to home plate and while Fairchild slid cleanly his shoulder clipped William Contreras in the head. Contreras ended up holding onto the ball to end the game but briefly needed medical attention afterwards.
The Brewers have defeated the Reds 5-4 and win the series.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced that William Contreras is clear of a concussion.

With the blow to Contreras’ head occurring on the last play of the game the Brewers continued to monitor him while they traveled from Milwaukee to Los Angeles. So far, 24 hours later, he is still asymptomatic and has been deemed clear of sustaining a concussion. He was not in the starting lineup against the Angels but was announced as available off the bench.
“Looks like he’s going to be fine. That’s no surprise. You know he can take a hit. It looks like he will be available to pinch-hit or play defense or pinch-run or play the outfield.”
-Manager Pat Murphy per MLB.com
A reserve catcher traveled with the Brewers in case he was needed against the Los Angeles Angels.

Traveling with the Brewers to Los Angeles as a member of the taxi squad is Eric Haase. The 31 year old has big league experience with the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers and was a standout player during Spring Training. Unfortunately carrying three catchers wasn’t feasable and he has remained in Milwaukee’s minor league ranks all season.
