Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Season Preview
The Wisconsin men’s basketball season is right around the corner.
Last year was a rough one for Wisconsin Badgers basketball. The Badgers finished 18-13 (10-10) and then lost in the second round of the March Madness Tournament. This year, Greg Gard and the Badgers are looking for a turn-around season in 2021-22.
New and Returning Faces on the 2021-22 Roster
There will be plenty of new faces for the Badgers this year, as Wisconsin lost four of their top seven scorers. That being said, there will be a lot of holes to cover up come the season opener on October 29th. Important names returning to Wisconsin are sophomore Jonathan Davis, junior Tyler Wahl, and senior Brad Davidson.
Wisconsin will be welcoming in a handful of newcomers, including three three-star recruits and three transfers. New signees Markus Ilver, Matthew Mors, and Chris Hodges are all freshmen expected to fill many holes on this team.
The Badgers were also able to bring in transfers Chris Vogt, Isaac Lindsey, and Jahcobi Neath. All three players have previous collegiate basketball experience. They will definitely help support this young Wisconsin team.
Sophomore Jonathan Davis will be the man to watch this year. He was selected to the All-Conference Third Team in the 2021-2022 previews. The 6’5 combo guard will be the focal point behind this Badger offense, along with Senior sharpshooter Brad Davidson.
Conference Play
The Big10 as a whole was the most dominant conference in the NCAA last season, having the most teams by any conference punch their ticket into March Madness. It will once again be a battle this season, as the top of the Big10 could be a mystery as there are multiple dominant teams in the conference. Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Penn State are all-conference teams that the Badgers will face this year during the regular season. All these teams, at some point, were ranked last year. It will be a challenging conference to succeed in, but that isn’t a surprise.
The Badgers kick-off their 2021-22 season schedule on October 29th, at home versus UW-Whitewater.
