Looking to avoid a three game losing streak, Wisconsin football returns home tomorrow to take on Purdue. The Boilermakers enter this game 1-3 and are coming off a 28-10 loss to Nebraska last week. The Badgers are coming off a 38-21 loss to USC after being outscored 28-0 in the second half. Can Wisconsin football get their season back on track? Kickoff is 11 AM CST on BTN. Here is a preview of tomorrow’s game.
Can the Wisconsin Football Offense Generate any Consistency?
I do give some sort of a pass to the Wisconsin football offense because of the last two games. Alabama and USC are about as hard of a two game stretch as you will see in college football. Two powerful offenses that can stress out just about any defense in college football. It makes your offense work a little bit harder to play catch up. This Wisconsin football offense right now is just not made to do that.
The Boilermakers have given up an average of 44 points a game over their last three games to Notre Dame, Oregon State, and Nebraska. It has not been a good defense that has also forced only two turnovers so far. Whether it’s run the ball or throwing it, this Badger offense needs to find out what they can rely on the res of the season if they want to keep their bowl streak. They don’t have much of an identity right now. Tomorrow could be the opportunity.
A Potential Bounce Back Game for the Wisconsin Football Defense
The Purdue offense does not have Jalen Milroe or Miller Moss. Those two quarterbacks will attack any secondary throughout a game. It’s been a tough showing for the Wisconsin football secondary, but that is not what Purdue will do.
I want to see the front seven get a good pass rush right away, force nearly turnover, and keep their foot on the gas. Like the offense, they need to something to feel good about as well. Purdue’s offense has scored an average of 12 points a game over the last three games. This also feels like a good opportunity,
Prediction
It’s still early in the season, but Purdue might be the worst team in the Big Ten. The Ryan Walter era is not off to a good start. They also fired offensive coordinator Graham Harrell last Sunday after the Nebraska game. I don’t think that will change their offensive game plan much, but it is a little surprising this happened on a game week and not a bye week.
This is also a little bit of gut check game for the Badgers. There is no doubt they are better than Purdue on both sides of the ball. For Brayden Locke, this is probably the worst defense he will have faced in all his starts at Wisconsin. He needs to be poised and calm in the pocket.
Look for a player like Darrion Dupree to get some extra reps tomorrow. After it came out that Chez Mellusi is stepping aside, Tawee Walker will be in line to get more snaps as will Jackson Acker. They are both bigger backs and Dupree has more speed and quickness. He is a player Luke Fickell has raved about. Cade Yacamelli should also help out too.
It has not been a great showing for this Wisconsin football team to this point. I am not necessarily surprised at them being 2-2 right now, but they have not had a good 60 minute showing to this point. I don’t see the Badgers losing this game, but I want to see them take ownership of this game early and for an entire 60 minutes.
