The Wisconsin basketball team was once very high on a four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, and now can reunite once again.
Rowan Brumbaugh, the second-overall recruit from Massachusetts in the 2022 recruiting class, was once considered a top recruiting target for the Badgers. The recruit included Wisconsin basketball in his final four schools, and also took an official visit before signing with the Texas Longhorns. After a rocky first two years in college, Brumbaugh has announced he will hit the transfer portal for the second time already.
Wisconsin Basketball Again Trying to Reunite With Former Top Recruiting Target
The Wisconsin basketball program was once a top choice for a four-star guard named Rowan Brumbaugh, but despite an eventful official visit, Brumbaugh signed with the Texas Longhorns. Things did not go quite as planned in Texas for Brumbaugh, as the four-star recruit was red-shirted which ultimately led to his decision to transfer. After spending a year with Georgetown, Brumbaugh announced he would again transfer once the Hoyas finished the season with just nine wins.
The guard started 20 games for the Hoyas this season and averaged 8.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. Brumbaugh is not the best free-throw shooter, only hitting 78.9% from the line this season, but makes up for his struggles with exceptional deep-range accuracy.
What can Rowan Brumbaugh Add to the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Team?
Brumbaugh is a talented, red-shirt Freshman guard with plenty of expertise on the offensive side of the ball. While the guard can score, he looks to pass to a cutting big man or the open wing in the corner first before shooting. Brumbaugh can create players for other players on the team himself, which is what makes the transfer very valuable to many programs.
The guard is not just a pass-first kind of player however, as he also can offer incredible shooting from anywhere on the court. Brumbaugh shot 40.7% from the field this season, and added a 37% shooting percentage from three-point range. Brumbaugh put together his best performance of the season in a loss against Xavier where he dropped 24-points and three assists while shooting 64.3% from the floor.
Will Brumbaugh Continue his Current Transferring Trend?
Currently, Rowan Brumbaugh has transferred twice in his young collegiate career, but what is interesting about that is where he chose to transfer to. Brumbaugh named his final four schools out of High School as Texas, Northwestern, Georgetown, and Wisconsin. Brumbaugh committed to Northwestern, but later signed his letter of intent with Texas.
After a red-shirt season with Texas, Brumbaugh transferred to his second option, the Georgetown Hoyas. Playing time was not the issue for Brumbaugh with Georgetown like it was with Texas, but rather with the quality of the team. Georgetown finished with nine wins despite having lofty expectations for themselves this season.
Wisconsin basketball could be the prime landing spot for Brumbaugh as they can offer both playing time for the guard, and a quality team to match his skill set. While it would be wonderful for Brumbaugh to transfer to Wisconsin next, he will likely go somewhere that can offer him a starting position.
