The Wisconsin basketball team has had a great year thus far as they sit at #13 in the rankings and hold one of the top Freshman in college basketball.

John Blackwell, a true Freshman guard for the Wisconsin basketball team, has been on fire this year for the Badgers. The Michigan native has been a spark for the Badgers off the bench on both sides of the ball. With his third weekly award claimed, Blackwell continues to be a key part of the Wisconsin basketball success thus far.

 Wisconsin Basketball Guard John Blackwell Earns Third Freshman of the Week Honors 

As stated before, Blackwell has been nothing short of a major bright spot for the Wisconsin Badgers this season. Blackwell currently averages 9.1 points and 3.6 rebounds on 46.5% shooting from the field.

Along with his great offense has been his stellar defense, as Blackwell has recorded 50 defensive rebounds and seven steals this season. The guard has great length and vision which makes it difficult as a shooter to get past Blackwell and take an intelligent shot. The defense of Blackwell off the bench has been huge for Wisconsin due to his reliability and consistency.

From Bench Player to Role Player: How Blackwell Carved Out His Role

Coming into the 2024 season the talented guard Blackwell was not considered to be someone who would carve out a significant role for themselves. Blackwell possesses all of the talent necessary to do so however, and proved that after only a handful of games this year.

In the first game of the season against Arkansas State, Blackwell scored 12 points and went 4-for-4 from the field including a three-point bucket. Blackwell then scored 49 points over the next five games for the Badgers, helping propel the team over their opponents.

Blackwell has continued his strong play all season, earning himself the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week honors three times now.

Can the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Team Continue Their Strong 2024 Run? 

With what the Wisconsin basketball team has been able to accomplish thus far, it would be no surprise if the Badgers could make a run at the Big Ten Conference title. Wisconsin needs to continue their stellar play and focus on playing as a team against their toughest opponents.
