The Wisconsin basketball team suffered their fifth-straight road loss last night, and Coach Greg Gard had plenty to say about the game.
The Wisconsin Badgers traveled to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers in their second match-up of the season. The Badgers entered play as four-point betting favorites, and were expected to pull off a close win over the opposing Hoosiers. However in one of the weirder games of the year, a 20-minute pause in play due to a fire alarm being pulled ultimately changed the pace of play moving forward according to Gard.
Wisconsin Basketball Coach Greg Gard Upset Over Unprecedented Fire Alarm During Indiana Loss
During one of the more important games of the season for the Wisconsin basketball team, Badgers guard John Blackwell made back-to-back shots to tie the score at 54. The Badgers had battled back all the way from 15-points down, and now had the chance to take the lead in the game. However, a loud, ear-piercing noise quickly stopped play and the game was delayed as the entire assembly hall was evacuated.
Play was stopped for a total of 20-minutes just as the clock hit the halfway point in the second half. Both teams were granted a five-minute warm-up before returning to play, virtually giving each team a second halftime.
Wisconsin basketball went 7-for-19 from the field following a fire alarm being pulled on the balcony of the assembly hall. The Badgers shot 9-of-18 from the field during the second half before the shocking stop in play, which Head Coach Greg Gard went on to say was ‘…something I have never seen before.’
Wisconsin Coach Greg Gard: ‘…Whoever from Indiana Pulled It.’
Following the loss to Indiana, Wisconsin coach Greg Gard went on to speak with the media and was asked about his opinion on the fire alarm being pulled. Gard was asked how the alarm possibly affected the play moving forward and stated, “I thought it was a great timeout from whoever from Indiana pulled it.”

Gard also went on to state that the timing of the fire alarm was crucial because the Badgers were ‘on a run’ shortly before the stoppage in play.
Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Enters Tough Final Stretch During Must-Win Situation
With a loss to Indiana, Wisconsin basketball is put in a very uncomfortable position where they need to win against some of their toughest competitors this season. Both Illinois and Purdue are still on the Badgers schedule moving forward, along with Rutgers who blew out Wisconsin earlier in the season. The Boilermakers allowed the Badgers to put up a fight during their 75-69 contest earlier in the season, but dominant center Zach Edey proved to be too much for Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Badgers desperately need a win moving forward after dropping games against must-win opponents. While it seems unlikely the Badgers will do so at this point, it is still possible the team from the beginning of the season could reappear.
