The Wisconsin Badgers last season in college basketball finished with a 20-15 overall record and a 9-11 BIG10 Conference record. Wisconsin missed the NCAA Tournament and went all the way to the Final Four in the NIT Tournament before losing to the North Texas Mean Green.
The Badgers are looking to be better this season and get back to the NCAA Tournament. They have not been in the Final Four since 2015, when they knocked off the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats and then lost in the National Championship Game to the Duke Blue Devils.
Before the 2023-2024 college basketball season begins, the Wisconsin Badgers are projected to finish fifth in the BIG10 Conference Standings this season, according to the BIG 10 Media Poll. The four teams that are projected to finish ahead of the Badgers are the Purdue Boilermakers (1), the Michigan State Spartans (2), the Maryland Terrapins (3), and the Illinois Fighting Illini (4).
The Wisconsin Badgers Have No Players in the Preseason All BIG10 First Team or Second Team
None of Wisconsin’s players made it to the BIG10 first team or second team. On the first team, the players that were listed are Zach Edey of Purdue, Jahmir Young of Maryland, Terrence Shannon Jr. of Illinois, Tyson Walker of Michigan State, and Boo Bouie of Northwestern.
On the second team, BIG10, are Clifford Omoruyi of Rutgers, AJ Hoggard of Michigan State, Ace Baldwin Jr. of Penn State, Kesei Tominaga of Nebraska, and Coleman Hawkins of Illinois.
A few Wisconsin Badgers players who received votes to be on the second team for the preseason BIG10 team are Chucky Hepburn, AJ Storr, and Tyler Wahl. Those will be some of the Badgers players who will make an impact this season for head coach Greg Gard.
This is a big season for the basketball program. The fact that they were picked fifth to finish in the BIG10 Conference means that people expect them to bounce back this season. If they don’t bounce back and miss the NCAA Tournament once again, it will be interesting to see where this basketball program goes after that.
