The college football 2023 season is now and Wisconsin Badgers’ rival, the Michigan Wolverines won it all with a 15-0 record after taking down the Washington Huskies. It is never too early to talk about the 2024 regular season and the Top 25 rankings.
According to Yahoo Sports, the Badgers are ranked 23rd in the way too early Top 25 for next season. Four other teams in the BIG10 Conference were also ranked in these way too early rankings for next season. Michigan was ranked fourth, the Ohio State Buckeyes were ranked sixth, the Penn State Nittany Lions were ranked 10th, and the Iowa Hawkeyes were ranked 20th.
Wisconsin finished the 2023 season with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-4 record in BIG10 Conference play. The Badgers lost to the LSU Tigers in the Reliaquest Bowl on New Year’s Day 35-31. Head coach Luke Fickell’s first season with the program did not go as planned and he is hoping it can go better in his second year.
Wisconsin Badgers are Banking On a Transfer Quarterback To Change For the Second Consecutive Year
One of the reasons why the Badgers fanbase was so pumped and optimistic heading into 2023 was because they were finally done with Graham Mertz at quarterback. Tanner Mordecai transferred from SMU and he had these solid stats, but the offense didn’t go as planned. Heading into 2024, the Badgers are going to be banking on another transfer quarterback to make them successful and that is Tyler Van Dyke from Miami (FL).
Van Dyke has talent and lost his starting job at Miami (FL) this past season. He is going to look to prove himself once again in the BIG10 Conference. If Tyler Van Dyke doesn’t pan out next season for the Badgers, Wisconsin is going to have to rethink how they do the quarterback position. It is something that has been holding this football program back for years.
One of the other quarterbacks on the Wisconsin Badgers roster is redshirt freshman Braedyn Locke, who will be a redshirt sophomore next season. Locke started in a couple of games this season for Wisconsin and could be next in line to be the starter after Van Dyke.
Braelon Allen, the star running back declared for the NFL Draft in 2024. They will need to find some other help in the backfield next season offensively. There is still a lot of time between now and next season to see whether or not the Wisconsin Badgers will be in the preseason Top 25 polls.
